In the town of Milton in September 1969, Albert Penrose convened a meeting with several cycling friends (Alois Maier, Tom Liptrot, Hans Harmgardt, Joe Miscioscia and Joe DeMeyer) to discuss the formation of an association for male cyclists over forty years of age and women over 35 years of age.

 

Three meetings were held during the winter of 1969-1970 to set up a Constitution, establish race rules and to organize a program of racing and touring events for the coming season. Another friend, Peter DeBruyn joined the group for these meetings.

 

As a result of Albert's efforts and dedication, the "Ontario Veterans Cycling Association" became a reality in the spring of 1970.

 

In 1982 the Association name changed from "Ontario Veterans Cycling Association" to "Ontario Masters Cycling Association". In the same year the Newsletter name changed from "Vets Gazette" to "The Masterpiece"
